DELEGATE PREPARATION
Background Guides
To help you delegates in your preparation, your presidents have prepared these background guides on the topics you will be discussing. It is essential that you read them before you begin your research, so that you have an idea of what your presidents want you to focus on during the debate of the committee.
Position Papers
For BAMUN VII, you are required to hand in your position papers to your presidents before October 18, 2007. Your presidents will be reading them and making suggestions on how you can improve them.
About the United Nations
One of the most important things to know when you are a member of Model United Nations is to know about the works of the United Nations Organization. It is of extreme importance that you know how the U.N. works, and that you are familiar with all of its organs and how each one works.
Rules of Procedure
To make each Model U.N. conference resemble the United Nations as much as it can, all conferences have Rules of Procedure. These rules may vary according to each conference's philosophies and requirements. It is vital that you read the Rules of Procedure that BAMUN has adopted before coming to the conference; that way you will be acquainted with them and committee sessions will be able to run smoothly.
Security Council:
The rules of the Security Council are a little bit different from those used in the General Assembly. Please download the rules from this link: http://www.un.org/Docs/sc/
International Court of Justice:
According to the United Nations, “The International Court of Justice is the principal judicial organ of the United Nations.” It works very differently than the rest of the organs and committees of the U.N. It is essential that the judges and attorneys who will participate in the ICJ get acquainted with the Court's Statute and Rules and familiarize with usual Latin terms and phrases used in a court room. Important Websites
There are several important websites where you can find information that will help you in your preparation. Some of these sites are listed here .
Code of Conduct
BAMUN has adopted a Code of Conduct that all participants must follow when attending one of our conferences. An infringement of one of these rules will lead to serious consequences; it may even lead to the expulsion of the conference.
Dress Code
All delegates are required to attend conference sessions in the appropriate attire that is requested by us. Since it is our objective to resemble the United Nations as much as possible, and to teach you to be true honorable diplomats, we will be very strict with our requirements. If a delegate is not wearing appropriate clothing, he or she will not be permitted to enter a ceremony, assembly, or committee session. Faculty Advisors and observers are not obliged to follow this code, but we do ask you to dress suitably, without jeans or tennis shoes.
