Everyone in life has a great dream… someone’s dreams bigger than others’, and others’ smaller than the rest. But your potential, perseverance, dedication, challenge, faith, and trust will characterize your accomplishments. Big dreamers, big successes… A dream is the first step to achieve what you want, and what you would like to achieve. Every dreamer sets personal goals, and every goal means a step toward that dream. We are each born as a “nobody”, but our dreams, goals, and values make us a “somebody”. Being a “somebody” in life doesn’t mean to be a “millionaire” or a boss, but someone who knows how to maintain an adequate balance in life and someone who knows how to regulate feelings, ideas, and thoughts, and use them wisely in our society. Being successful is to be more than a person, a friend and a leader, whose ideals in life go beyond reality. For those who are successful, life is not just a game where we learn to lose and win. Each path must have a teaching, an eternal teaching.
Life may be known as a game or a journey… A game? Yes. We must set ourselves on fire, and for that reason we should risk today’s success for tomorrow’s promise. A journey? Life is not only a destination, but also a path to follow, where many teachings must be gained, and many obstacles must be overcome to achieve a goal.

WELCOME TO BAMUN VI! My name is Andres Atique; I'm 17 years old and currently a senior at Marymount School. It is a pleasure for me, as Director General of the Eighth Barranquilla Model United Nations Conference, to greet you.
Maybe you’re thinking I’m just going crazy… Some of you maybe cannot understand why I just wrote about goals, dreams, achievements, aspirations… But as BAMUN VIII’s Director General, being a dreamer is just the first step to achieve what I have achieved. You may see this as just something more or something unimportant… But every goal and achievement must be seen with greatness and must be received as something marvelous and unnatural in our lives.
For the Third and last year, I cheerfully can welcome you to this Eighth Barranquilla Model United Nations Conference! It is an honor, for me as Director General of BAMUN VIII to welcome you to this conference. Throughout seven years we have been working tediously for the preparation and successful fulfillment of BAMUN conferences concluding with great triumph and spiritual completion that has helped us all be greater persons.
For the eighth consecutive year we have prepared this conference with great effort for YOUR spiritual and academic realization, so that from this moment on we start building a better future for humanity. It is of great importance and significance what we are accomplishing in this conference because what we do is strengthen our roots for our trees of knowledge and leadership of the future.
I am looking forward to these 4 days we're going to spend together because this will be the time to show our highest levels of preparation and capacity as young leaders. I hope you enjoy every moment of this conference as much as we have enjoyed preparing it for you. The BAMUN Staff will do everything possible to make your stay in Barranquilla an enjoyable and rewarding experience, so please don't hesitate to contact any of us if there is something we can do for you.
